Harvard/Harris poll finds 55% believe Biden should continue Trump’s border policies

A poll by Harvard/Harris found that 55 percent of American respondents believe Biden should continue former President Trump’s border policies.

The other 45 percent suggested Biden should undo the policies. When asked, “Do you think the Biden Administration executive orders on immigration encourage or discourage illegal immigration?” 68 percent of respondents said, “Encourage.” Since the new administration, numerous Trump-era policies preventing the entry of illegal immigrants were reversed. An overwhelming 80% said that illegal immigration is a serious issue and needs more attention than what President Biden or Vice President Harris are giving.

The policies consisted of a Title 42 travel ban and terminating the development of a border wall, which the administration may restart. A recent surge in illegal border crossings and criminal activity including smuggling of humans and drugs has led lawmakers to protect the border without federal assistance.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced there has been an 800 percent increase of fentanyl seized at the state’s southern border when comparing April 2021 to April 2020. Governor Abbott has also begun a border wall project and increased the presence of law enforcement with the help of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and Nebraska Governor Pete Rickens
