Florida to assist Texas and Arizona by sending law enforcement to southern border

Gov. Ron DeSantis has promised to send Florida law enforcement to the southern border in response to calls for help from Texas and Arizona as they try to manage the record-breaking number flow of migrants.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey (R) sent a letter to state governors last week requesting “additional manpower” from “any state that can spare it” to deal with a surge of illegal migrants at the border, which have reached a 15-year high. “The state of Florida is answering the call,” DeSantis said. “We believe securing the southern border is important for our country, but specifically, we believe it will benefit the people of Florida to get this under control.”

Florida law enforcement officials including Highway Patrol, nine different sheriff’s departments, and members of the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, will travel to the southernmost counties of Texas and Arizona to secure the border. A number of sheriff’s offices have committed to helping, as well, including Brevard, Escambia, Hillsborough, Holmes, Lee, Okaloosa, Pasco, Santa Rosa and Walton counties.

“The Biden administration ended effective policies that have been implemented by President Donald Trump to curb illegal immigration across the Southern border,” DeSantis said. “They have revoked policies designed to secure our border and keep Americans safe.” During the news conference, DeSantis also claimed that drug trafficking and human trafficking were on the rise due to the Biden administration’s border policies.
