A letter allegedly from the Mexican cartel who have been accused of the kidnapping and subsequent killing of Americans last week said that any of its members who are “involved and responsible” for the incident have faced consequences from the gang and were then handed over to authorities.
“We have decided to turn over those who were directly involved and responsible in the events, who at all times acted under their own decision-making and lack of discipline,” the letter, which was reviewed by the Associated Press, reads.
A photo showing five men face down on the pavement and bound was enclosed with the letter. The has also apologized to the residents of Matamoros, where the kidnapping took place and also for the death of the innocent Mexican bystander.
The letter stressed that all individuals involved in the kidnapping had breached one of the cartel’s key rules which is “respecting the life and well-being of the innocent.”
Four US residents who traveled across the border from Brownsville, Texas, to Matamoros, Mexico in order for one of the Americans to undergo a medical procedure.
Two of the US residents were killed, a Mexican bystander was killed and one of the surviving US residents was wounded.
