Prince Harry and Megan Markle asked to vacate their residence near Windsor Castle

A spokesman for Prince Harry and Megan Markle, who are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, has confirmed that they have been asked to “vacate” their residence in the UK.

The spokesperson confirmed that “We can confirm the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been requested to vacate their residence at Frogmore Cottage.”

Frogmore Cottage is located in Windsor and is in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

The cottage was gifted to Harry and Megan by Queen Elizabeth II.  Harry and Megan spent £2.4 million ($2.8 million) of taxpayers money renovating the cottage in 2018.  The money was fully paid back by Prince Harry at a later date.

Royal Correspondent Laura Bundock believes this move, which was sanctioned by King Charles, is an attempt to create further distance between The Royal Family and Harry and Megan.

“This move by the King could be the very reason Harry and Meghan decide not to attend his coronation.”

“There might be a bigger aim here. It’s reported the King wants to move Prince Andrew out of his Windsor home, Royal Lodge. It is a grand house for someone stripped of all royal responsibilities. The suggestion is, the Duke of York has been offered Frogmore Cottage instead.”

“With the Sovereign Grant under review, the King will be considering his financial assets carefully. He’ll also be deciding how much he’s willing to pay members of his own family. Those decisions, with Britain struggling in a cost-of-living crisis, will be difficult.”
