As the crisis at the southern border worsens, thousands of migrants are illegally entering the states despite the White House pledging to increase deportations. Reports suggest migrants, the majority Haitian, are freely released after being caught by border patrol authorities.
The exact number of Haitian refugees, who are fleeing a failing government, a recent earthquake, and disease, is unclear. However, not all of those at the border are being let into the country, as US authorities reportedly sent three planes full of migrants back to Haiti, despite the country’s officials claiming inability to care for their people and those who fled.
In recent months, unprecedented waves of immigrants have arrived at the southern border with hopes of seeking asylum under the Biden administration. Most recently, a swath of Haitain refugees arrived and managed to illegally enter the country in Del Rio, Texas.
Border patrol agents attempted to block entries with agency vehicles and police tape, although hundreds of migrants waded through a river without difficulty entering. States including Texas and Arizona have sought help from states like Florida and Nebraska to increase border security, surveillance, and fund the completion of the border wall.
As the crisis worsened throughout the past ten months of the Biden administration, immigrant-friendly Democrats, including those in the White House, have become more accepting of securing the border. The American people share this mindset, with the majority believing the Biden administration should reinstate former President Donald Trump’s border policies.
