Former President Trump chastised the Biden administration’s withdrawal from Afghanistan and speculates China and Russia could already be reverse-engineering U.S. military equipment left behind.
Trump suggested in an interview with Sharyl Atkisson on the September 12 episode of “Full Measure,” that the nation’s adversaries could be taking advantage of the numerous weapons, armored vehicles, and aircrafts the U.S. military left behind in Afghanistan. He also stated on the episode the withdrawal was “incompetent,” stating this move will endanger the United States while also benefitting its enemies.
Trump doubts the war in Afghanistan is over, believing the unvetted Afghan refugees resettling in the United States and also across the world could pose a threat (Fox News). He stated about the people rushed onto the planes to leave Afghanistan “these people, many of these people are going to be terrorists. OK?”
CENTCOM reports 170 pieces of US military equipment were left behind, including the 73 aircraft, 27 Humvees and 70 Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles were left behind in Afghanistan. USA Today notes the aircrafts left behind included some that were disabled. Soldiers operated Apache attack helicopters at the airport and Afghan pilots reportedly flew some of the advanced aircraft to other countries and abandoned most of the rest of the equipment.
