Top US general says world is shifting to more robotic military capabilities

Conservative talk radio host and former Illinois representative Joe Walsh announced Sunday that he plans to launch a Republican presidential primary campaign against President Donald Trump. The announcement by the former Tea Party representative, which came on ABC’s “This Week” with ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos, was met with a one-word response by Trump Campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh’s somewhat dismissive answer of “whatever.” ~
Walsh recognized the uphill battle it will be to beat a sitting President in the Republican primary election who has such a high approval rating within his own party – a reported 94% of Republicans say they support the candidacy of Donald Trump for President (Washington Post, 2019). The Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel also dismissed the campaign of Joe Walsh, stating in an interview with ABC News that “President Trump enjoys unprecedented support among Republicans. He has already delivered a long list of incredible accomplishments for conservatives and the country. Republicans are firmly behind the president and any effort to challenge him in a primary is bound to go absolutely nowhere.” According to ABC News, however, Walsh says he will be attempting to make a moral case against the President. “I’m running because he’s unfit; somebody needs to step up and there needs to be an alternative. The country is sick of this guy’s tantrum — he’s a child.” Walsh, if running on the basis of morality, may raise questions on his ability to do so due to his lengthy history with controversial and incendiary comments such as controversially racial slurs on Twitter as well as questioning the birth certificate and religion of former President Barack Obama. ~
Along with not having the support of his own party, Walsh’s campaign is also battling history. According to NPR, the last and only President to fail to be re-elected by their own party was Franklin Pierce, who was not re-elected as the Democrat nominee in 1856. ~
