The U.S. Women’s National Team is heading to the World Cup Final after surviving a close 2-1 victory against England on Tuesday

The USWNT will advance to the World Cup Final, which will be hosted on Sunday in France where the U.S. will meet the winner of Wednesday’s semi-final match between the Netherlands and Sweden. England will face the loser of the semi-finals match on Saturday to determine the third place finisher. ~

The U.S. women fought off England in stressful fashion after U.S. Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher saved a penalty kick in the 84th minute of regulation time. The USWNT won the match with a goal in the tenth minute from forward Christen Press, who replaced injured star forward Megan Rapinoe, and the game winning goal in the thirty-first minute by Alex Morgan, who controversially celebrated by sipping a nonexistent cup of tea. Tuesday was also Alex Morgan’s birthday, making Morgan the first woman to ever score a goal in the World Cup on her birthday. ~

The appearance in the World Cup Final will be the U.S. Women’s third straight. After losing the World Cup title in 2011 to Japan, they proceeded to get revenge on the Japanese by winning the 2015 World Cup comfortably 5-2. The top-ranked Americans have been present in all eight World Cup semi-finals and have won the trophy three times, more than any other nation. ~

This is Fact Based America – WE have the FACTS, YOU have the OPINIONS. Do you think the U.S. Women’s National Team has what it takes to win the World Cup?
