Senator Mitch McConnell will remain hospitalized for ‘a few days’ after concussion

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was taken to a DC hospital on Wednesday after he tripped and fell, and will reportedly remain there for several days to be treated for a resulting concussion.

McConnell fell while leaving an event for the Senate Leadership Fund at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Wednesday evening. He was taken to a nearby hospital and is reportedly being treated for a concussion he suffered during the fall. The 81 year old McConnell is a childhood polio survivor.

His office released a statement on Thursday confirming the Kentucky senator would remain in the hospital for a few days to be treated for his injury, and that he is “grateful to the medical professionals for their care and to his colleagues for their warm wishes.”

President Biden said on Thursday he had spoken with the McConnell family and believed the senator would make a full recovery after being treated. “I think he’s gonna be alright,” the president told reporters upon his return to DC from Philadelphia. McConnell is the third senator to be absent from Capitol Hill recently due to health issues, as Senator John Fetterman remains at Walter Reed to be treated for depression, and Senator Diane Feinstein is now home after a stay in the hospital being treated for shingles.
