AZ gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake may walk back endorsement of Oklahoma politician over ‘antisemitic’ comments

Arizona’s Trump-backed Republican nominee for governor, Kari Lake, said this weekend she may walk back her recent endorsement of Oklahoma legislative candidate Jarrin Jackson over antisemitic comments he allegedly made in the past.

Jackson is running for Oklahoma Senate in District 2. After receiving Lake’s endorsement, Jackson Tweeted his appreciation. “I am honored to be endorsed by the #AmericaFirst (and Trump-endorsed) warrior who drained the McCain swamp in Arizona and is now the GOP nominee for governor in Arizona – Kari Lake,” Jackson wrote on Wednesday. “She is a rising star and her endorsement is a big deal! Thank you, Kari!”

However, shortly after her endorsement of Jackson, Lake came under fire for supporting a candidate who is known for making offensive statements about Jewish people and the LGBTQ+ community.

According to Axios, Jackson previously stated, “I’m not beholden to Jews or any other group” and, “I ain’t owned by the Jews. I worship Jesus Christ. He’s my Messiah.” He is also quoted as saying,  “all Jews will go to hell if they don’t believe the gospel of Jesus Christ, just like everybody else.” He has also reportedly referred to any LGBTQ+ lifestyle as “a gateway to pedophilia.”

This weekend, after days of criticism over her endorsement of Jackson, Lake told Axios she may walk back her endorsement of Jackson if it is verified that he made the offensive statements.

“I looked at Jarrin’s resume as (a) Combat Veteran in Afghanistan. It is impossible to dig into everything someone has said in their life. If his reported comments are true, I obviously rescind my endorsement,” Lake said. “I respect Jarrin’s service to our Nation, but clearly denounce that kind of derogatory language. Let me be clear: Our great movement welcomes anyone and everyone who wants to fight for a better future.”
