‘Rust’ armorer says Alec Baldwin failed to follow her safety guidance before fatal shooting

The armorer on the staff of the movie “Rust” claims Alec Baldwin consistently failed to follow her safety advice regarding firearms before the deadly on-set shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October last year.

Hannah Gutierrez Reed, who was employed as an armorer on the set of Baldwin’s now-defunct Western movie “Rust” has said in response to a legal filing that Baldwin repeatedly ignored her instructions and suggestions about gun safety during filming.

Reed claims she recommended firearm training with Baldwin and others before the scene that killed Hutchins, but he refused and no training was conducted.

Reed also insists Baldwin failed to follow her instructions regarding how to hold a firearm on set, and never to point it at crew members. “Mr. Baldwin knew that he could never point a firearm at crew members under any circumstances and had a duty of safety to his fellow crew members,” Reed said on Sunday, according to CNN.

Reed also claims she was not called in to check the firearms before the scene began filming, when she should have been present to make sure all on-set weapons were set-ready.

Baldwin continues to shift blame from himself regarding the incident, saying in a legal filing, “An actor cannot rule that a gun is safe. That is the responsibility of other people on the set.”
