Donald Trump makes surprise visit to New York Police and firefighters

Former President Donald Trump commemorated the 20th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks by making a surprise visit to a New York City police precinct and neighboring fire station on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Trump released a statement for the 20-year anniversary of 9/11. He said the day “represents great sorrow for our Country” and he commended the bravery of first responders like police and firefighters.

The 45th president also put out a shorter statement praising former Mayor Rudy Giuliani: “Congratulations to Rudy Giuliani (for the 20th time!), the greatest Mayor in the history of New York City, for having shown such leadership and doing such an incredible job during and after the attack on our Nation!”

Trump, who did not join President Biden or a number of his predecessors at any of the memorial ceremonies held at the sites of the devastating plane attacks Saturday, stopped in at a New York City Police Department station in Manhattan to speak to a group of officers he called “incredible people.”

Officers lined up outside the stationhouse in formation to greet the former President. Trump shook hands and posed for photos before walking next door to Ladder Co. 2, where he also signed autographs and the stationhouse’s log book.

Trump left the NYPD’s 17th Precinct in mid-town just after 1.40pm. He exited to cheers and applause, with one well-wisher screaming “Thank you for keeping us safe”
