AOC says Texas heartbeat law is an attack on ‘menstruating persons’

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had much to say about Texas’ news Heartbeat Law, which makes it illegal to conduct an abortion once a heartbeat is detected.

Ocasio-Cortez, in her statements on CNN with Anderson Cooper, said that she wouldn’t use the term “women” and instead opted for “menstruating persons,” which is a relatively new idea that those in the trans community can menstruate too, not just women.

Ocasio-Cortez expressed that she thought that Texas Governor Greg Abbott was “deeply ignorant” on female anatomy and the reproductive system. She argued that the new Texas law doesn’t provide women with ample time to find out their pregnant and get an abortion.

Ocasio-Cortez took her stance further tweeting, “The gutting of Roe v Wade imperils every menstruating person in the US, every person who engages in sex, and every person who values our constitutional right to privacy. Just one reason Roe isn’t a ‘women’s issue’ beyond the fact that people who aren’t women can menstruate too!”.
