Zero fatalities reported in Portland riot that resulted in ICE facility being set on fire with people still inside

An Immigrations and Customs Enforcement building in the South Waterfront district of Portland, Oregon was set ablaze during a Saturday night riot.

Journalist Grace Morgan documented the series of events on her Twitter feed. “I’m at the ICE facility in Portland OR, for a big planned protest. So far close to 100 black blocs have gathered and more are arriving every minute,” she posted. At 11:35 PM, she updated that the Portland ICE building was currently on fire. The video shows a group of rioters chanting, “Every city, every town, burn the precinct to the ground!” (Fox News). Morgan’s video footage also shows the words “F*** ICE,” “This is indigenous land,” “DHS murders” and “Reunite!” spray painted on the building. Additionally, rioters launched eggs at the door. While a fire was blazing outside the front of the ICE building, rioters chanted, “This is what community looks like!”

Rioters barricaded the front door of the building with a chain link fence shortly before midnight, The Blaze reports. A demonstrator placed a traffic cone on a security camera to prevent the riots from being identified, and fireworks were launched inside the building. At 12:29 AM, Morgan posted that federal agents retreated and unloaded hundreds of pepper bullets on the rioters. Footage posted by Andy Ngo showed federal agents attempting to exit the building, but the barricade prevented them from exiting. Law enforcement was forced to exit out of the rear of the building. “An #antifa gives the #BLM fist salute while the crowd cheers on the burning of the @ICEgov Portland facility last night. Officers were trapped inside when antifa set the building on fire,” Ngo reported. The Portland Police Association has not yet commented on the riots and no arrests have been made.

The rioters have been identified by Andy Ngo as members of Antifa, a far-left political group. This is not the first time Antifa has demonstrated in the City of Roses. For example, on January 20, 2021, Antifa vandalized a Democratic Party office, smashed windows, scuffled with police, and spraypainted anarchist symbols (Reuters). On the night of April 3, 2021, Antifa rioters lit a fire outside the Portland Police Association, and vandalized the building writing, “Nazis work here” (Fox News). In July of 2019, Antifa arrested conservative journalist Andy Ngo, leaving Ngo with a brain hemorrhage (CNN).
