Ted Cruz has recently opened up about the ‘crisis on the border,’ even going as far to describe it as a “humanitarian crisis.”
A group of 19 senators including Cruz stayed up to join a third shift patrol crew where they witnessed “caravans” of immigrants crossing the border. Cruz noted that they “saw children, [they] saw three different nursing mothers in one of the outdoor pens, sitting on the ground, nursing infant children.” Cruz said in an interview on Fox & Friends that, “Donna is a gigantic tent city that they built to handle this massive crisis, this massive surge of illegal immigration. Its capacity with Covid constraints is 250 people. There are over 4,000 people crammed into Donna. They are not six feet apart or three feet apart, they’re not even six inches apart.”
In February over 100,000 immigrants were encountered at the border. In 2019 there was a surge of immigrants at the border in February, however, under Biden, this number nearly tripled, according to Forbes. By a month-to-month basis, from January to February there’s been a 28% increase at the border. Biden’s team hounded Trump in debates and on TV for how he treated minors coming across the border. However, under Biden, they have already received more than 9,500 unaccompanied minors in a month under approximately the same policies. Furthermore, it is projected that March’s total unaccompanied minors will surpass 17,000 kids. The Trump administration’s worst month was in May 2019 where 11,475 unaccompanied minors crossed. His average influx was approximately 4,000 kids.
