BREAKING: California wildfire crisis prompts closure of all the state’s national forests

The state of California recently shut down all camp sites and hikes in all of California’s National forests due to widespread wildfires.

Officials hope that this will dwindle down the chances of an accidental spark that could erupt in yet another wildfire and to also minimize hikers or campers from getting trapped in a fire that could potentially make the death toll rise. The closure goes into effect at 11.59pm on Tuesday and runs until the same time on September 17th, according to the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service’s Pacific Southwest Region.

So far there have been more than 6,800 wildfires this year that have burned and destroyed more than 1.7m acres across the state. For instance, the massive Caldor fire has been raging since August 14th.

Thousands of Firefighters have been opposing and containing the fire as it has burned just under 200,000 acres as it nears Lake Tahoe. As of Monday, an evacuation order was put into effect in the South Lake Tahoe region (Independent).
