NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo announces his resignation from office amid sexual assault scandal

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo officially resigned from his office after confirmed sexual assault scandals and political pressure.

In his resignation announcement, Cuomo said, “New York tough means New York loving, and I love New York and I love you.” Despite denying the allegations after the investigation, he went on to say, “I would never want to be unhelpful in any way, and I think given the circumstances, the best way I can help now is if I step aside and let government get back to governing, and therefore, that’s what I’ll do.”

Last week, Attorney General Letitia James released the investigation into Cuomo, officially finding him guilty of sexual harassment and breaking federal law. The incidents span his two terms from 2013 until 2021. After publication, President Biden, NY state lawmakers, and Cuomo’s constituents called on the governor to resign.

Later in his announcement, Cuomo finally apologized to the women, “When there is a bias or a lack of fairness in the justice system, it is a concern for everyone. There is a difference between alleged improper conduct and concluding sexual harassment. Now, don’t get me wrong, this is not to say that there are 11 women who I truly offended. There are, and I deeply, deeply apologize.”
