In an hour-long interview with Sean Hannity on Monday, former President Donald Trump stated that he will “very seriously” consider a White House run in 2024 if Republicans can “get the right people” on Capitol Hill.
“It’s very important that we get the right people. That means in the Senate, that means in the House,” Trump told Hannity. Trump also stated that he is “all in” on campaigning for Republicans in the 2022 midterm elections. “If they need a rally, we’ll do a rally, we’ll do calls, we’ll do all sorts of things. Almost everybody I endorse wins,” Trump said. Hannity also asked Trump what he missed most about being president. Trump responded, “I miss the most, helping people.” He also added, “That’s why I did it. Look, this has been very traumatic. I had a great life, great company, great business, no problems and now all I do is, people go after you. It’s vicious, it’s horrible but you know what? I loved doing it because I helped people. And I’ve helped them more than any president.” The Bloomberg Billionaire Index estimates Trump’s current net worth to be around $2.33 billion as of March 2021, which is down from $3.7 billion when he first took office in 2016.
Trump said his biggest accomplishment while in office was his $1.5 trillion package of corporate and individual tax cuts. He added that he hopes the Biden administration won’t “screw it up.” Trump was pressed by Hannity on the possibility of running for a third time. Trump responded, “First of all, it’s a long time.” He added, “Look, I’ve got tremendous numbers … there is more popularity [for me] now than there was the day before the election, because they see how bad things are at the border. They see what is going on, they see that their guns are gonna be gone … their taxes are going up. Regulations are going through the roof. Job [losses] are going to go up. So, I say this. I am looking at it very seriously. Beyond seriously. From a legal standpoint, I don’t want to really talk about it yet. it’s a little too soon.”
Trump remains popular in the Republican Party today. In the 2021 CPAC straw poll, 55% called Trump their preferred candidate with 68% saying they would like to see him run again. Trump’s policies alone carry more popularity than the president himself. An overwhelming 95% said they would like to see the GOP advancing Trump’s agenda and policies.
