After a four-month investigation into allegations of sexual harassment by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, state Attorney General Letitia James confirmed the allegations.
“The independent investigation has concluded that Governor Andrew Cuomo sexually harassed multiple women and in doing so violated federal and state law,” James said in a press conference. She continued to outline the harassment of “… current and former NY state employees,” including “engaging in unwelcome and nonconsensual touching and making numerous offensive comments of a suggestive and sexual nature.”
Political leaders, including President Biden and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, have called for their fellow Democrats’ resignation. In a statement, Pelosi affirmed, “I commend the women who came forward to speak their truth. Recognizing his love of New York and the respect for the office he holds, I call upon the Governor to resign.”
Representative Elise Stefanik called for further consequence, suggesting, “No one is above the law and today justice must be served. Governor Cuomo must resign and be arrested immediately.”
Despite the conclusion of the nonpartisan investigation, Cuomo continues to deny the allegations. In a video released today, he said, “I never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances. I am 63 years old. I’ve lived my entire adult life in public view. That is just not who I am.”
