DeSantis hits out at Trump during Piers Morgan interview

Florida Governor DeSantis doubled down on his attacks against Trump during an interview with UK journalist Piers Morgan, discussing Trump’s reported affair with adult film actress Stormy Daniels and stating that Trump’s administration was full of “daily drama.”

DeSantis also referred to Trump as a loser when he raised Trump’s 2020 election defeat and the poor performance at the midterms by Trump backed candidates in 2022.  When asked about the nickname “DeSanctimonious” DeSantis shrugged it off.

“I don’t really know what it means, but I kinda like it, it’s long, it’s got a lot of vowels,” DeSantis told the New York Post of the nickname Trump gave him shortly before Election Day. “We’ll go with that, that’s fine. I mean you can call me whatever you want, just as long as you also call me a winner because that’s what we’ve been able to do in Florida, is put a lot of points on the board and really take this state to the next level.”

DeSantis narrowly won the Florida gubernatorial race in 2018, with an endorsement from Trump.  DeSantis beat his challenger Charlie Crist by 19 points in 2022 without the backing of Trump.

DeSantis also said he would have been more decisive with Dr Anthony Fauci.  Despite their disagreements, Trump retained Fauci as Chief Medical Officer to The White House.

“The approach to Covid was different,” DeSantis told the New York Post. “I would have fired somebody like Fauci. I think he got way too big for his britches, and I think he did a lot of damage.”

Trump posted on Truth Social and insinuated DeSantis may someday face his own “false” allegations from another woman, an “underage” classmate, or “possibly a man.”

Other conservative figures also took aim at DeSantis following the interview.

Former Breitbart editor Raheem Kassam criticized DeSantis on Twitter.

“So there you have it. Piers Morgan, who is Rupert Murdoch’s personal hand puppet, elicits DeSantis’s declaration before it’s official, and publishes the scoop in the Murdoch-owned Post. Read this. The weasel words are impressive on all sides!”

Donald Trump Jr. also hit out at DeSantis.

“Just as radical Dems are indicting Trump & destroying the fabric of our nation with their Police State tactics, DeSantis pathetically runs to the liberal media on orders from his RINO establishment owners to attack my father. He’s exposing himself as 100% Controlled Opposition!”
