Biden accuses Putin of war crimes

Following the International Crime Court’s (ICC) to issue an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin, Joe Biden spoke out and welcomed the decision by saying it was “justified” as Putin has “clearly committed war crimes.”

“I think it’s justified [the warrant]. But the question is – it’s not recognised internationally by us either. But I think it makes a very strong point” Biden went on to say.

The ICC accused Putin of being responsible for Ukrainian children being abducted.

Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova, who is Russia‘s commissioner for children, was also subject to an arrest warrant from the ICC.

If either Putin or Lvova-Belova enter one of the ICC’s 123 member states, authorities would be permitted to arrest them and take them to The Hague.

Russia, who does not recognize the ICC, called the accusations “outrageous and unacceptable,” going on to say that the arrest warrant was “null and void.”

The US concluded in a separate investigation that Russian forces have committed war crimes in Ukraine.

“There is no doubt that Russia is committing war crimes and atrocities (in) Ukraine, and we have been clear that those responsible must be held accountable,” a State Department spokesperson said.
