Trump posts video warning of WWIII, details his plans to place a protective dome over US

Former president Donald Trump released a new video on social media last Friday in which he warned viewers of an impending World War III and detailed his plan to place a protective dome over the United States if he is reelected to the White House in 2024.

“If you take a look right now, the ‘nuclear’ word is being mentioned all the time. This is a word you’re not allowed to use. It was never used during the Trump administration,” Trump says in the video. He goes on to claim that the world is headed for another world war that would “make World War I and World War II like very small battles.”

The former president then outlined his plan to place a protective dome over the United States to protect the country from incoming nuclear attacks similar to Israel’s Iron Dome defense system, to ward off any nuclear attacks. While Trump’s idea has been met with some jeers, the United States military has been testing Israel’s Iron Dome technology for the last few years, with its first US-based test completed in New Mexico in 2021, and another successful test in 2022. The mobile air defense system uses several large batteries which track and respond to incoming rockets by either ignoring them if they are headed for a non-populated area, or intercepting them if they are going to cause casualties.

Trump’s video, however, is not entirely accurate. While the former president warns of nuclear attacks and seems to offer the dome as a solution, Israel’s Iron Dome technology does not protect against nuclear attacks, but rather rockets and other artillery. While Israel’s military reports over an 80 percent success rate with its Iron Dome, the technology does not necessarily address the threats faced by the United States in the nuclear capacity Trump discusses in his video. While the US system is designed to intercept missiles with nuclear warheads on them, so if even a few were to penetrate the dome, the results would likely be disastrous.

“America must have an impenetrable dome to protect our people,” Trump said in the video. Thus far, he is running unopposed for the 2024 presidential election, as the country awaits announcements from his GOP competitors and current Democratic President Joe Biden on their intentions for the 2024 general election.
