California pediatrics convention draws protests over gender transitioning for minors

On Saturday, a parent-led group protested outside the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) conference California. The group was there to oppose the medical transition of trans-identifying minors.

Over 150 protesters belonging to the “First Do No Harm” Unity Rally arrived at the Anaheim Convention Center donning purple t-shirts and carrying signs, one saying “Listen to Detransitioners,” which is someone who has changed gender and either regrets it or is attempting to make the switch back.

“Our mission was to speak with doctors and educate them,” said Erin Friday, the organizer of the rally.

Friday told the Daily Wire that “First Do No Harm” compiled brochures which they handed out to doctors as they entered the conference. Friday accused counter protestors nearby of being disruptive, however she said that “First Do No Harm” were respectful and did their best to avoid any confrontation.

“We just stood there silently holding our signs and passing out information,” Friday said.

Detransitioner advocate Chloe Cole also spoke at the protest. Cole, who is a biological female, now labels themselves as a “former trans kid” who underwent testosterone treatments and puberty blockers at 13 years old and 2 years later, had a double mastectomy.

Cole now speaks at rallies and cautions others against making life-changing decisions with their bodies.

Cole spoke during the rally where they read a letter from a group of young former trans people, addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland, pleading with him to “do the right thing” and ignore the letter sent to the Department of Justice by groups who are in favor of “gender affirmation” care for children and adolescents.

“The American Medical Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, and Children’s Hospital Association fully endorse the ‘gender affirmation’ model of care, which prevents medical professionals from questioning a child’s self-reported transgender identity, and from exploring possible underlying factors causing their dysphoria,” Cole said.

The California chapter of “Gays Against Groomers” also showed up, led by Frank Rodriguez. They held signs saying “Leave The Kids Alone!”

Counter protestors could be seen nearby with signs saying “Transphobes Go Home” and “We Trust Doctors, We Listen to Kids.”
