Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava is asking prosecutors to investigate claims of “voter fraud” after elderly residents in LIttle Havana said their party registrations were changed without their knowledge.
According to The Miami Herald, a spokeswoman for the county stated in an email that Cava “sent an official request to the State Attorney to investigate recent reports of voter registration fraud to ensure the integrity of the elections process.”
Cava joined other Florida Democrats in asking for an investigation into such complaints from residents of the Haley Sofge Towers. This is a county-managed public housing unit.
Democratic gubernatorial candidates running against Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) have also made statements requesting an investigation into the change in political party affiliation. Veine Cava wrote, “Under the alleged guise of voter renewal efforts, canvassers entered the building and engaged with elderly residents, who claim they did not approve sudden changes to their party affiliation.”
Most of the residents were over the age of 65. They came forward stating their political party affiliation had been changed to Republican without their knowledge or consent.
Cava continued, “In every instance, Department Director Christina White and her staff immediately reported the case to your office. After reporting the incident, the department staff would contact the voter to help correct the record and offer any other assistance.”
