“She’s 13” trends on Twitter after headline highlights bisexuality of Ted Cruz’s daughter

Twitter users have come to Caroline Cruz’s defense after LGBTQ Nation put out a headline that read, “Ted Cruz’s teen daughter comes out as bisexual,” about a video she posted to TikTok last week talking about her life as the child of a Senator.

While thirteen year old Cruz did not mention being bisexual in the video itself, after it went viral users noticed she listed her pronouns and “bi” in her profile. A commenter asked if her father, Texas GOP Senator Ted Cruz, knew of her bisexuality, to which Caroline answered, “I haven’t told him yet, I’m kinda nervous tbh but I don’t think he would be mad about it.”

Social media users both liberal and conservative pounced on LGBTQ Nation for its headline, accusing the outlet of outing the teen publicly. After the headline was posted, the hashtag “She’s 13” started trending on social media.

“Ted Cruz’s daughter is 13 years old. This is exploitation of a minor and disgusting ethical malpractice on the part of the media. Stop this. Leave her alone,” wrote Meghan McCain. “This is incredibly vile. Cruz’s daughter is 13 years old. Leave her and her family alone,” Tweeted conservative author JD Vance.

Other users pointed out the hypocrisy of the outlet for putting out this headline after criticizing other outlets for printing details of Malia and Sasha Obama when their father was president. Cabot Phillips, Daily Wire writer, Tweeted, “The same people who said stories on Obama’s college-aged daughter were off limits now have no problem reporting on Ted Cruz’s 13 year old daughter.”
