Pilot rescued from small plane moments before train crashes into it

A California man was rescued from a Cessna aircraft that had crash-landed on a train track just moments before a passenger train smashed into the plane, destroying it.

In an astonishing video captured by bystander Luis Jiminez, the train is seen hurtling along the track before it crashes into the small aircraft, sending pieces of it in all directions. In body cam footage from LAPD officers who saved the pilot, the dramatic rescue takes place mere seconds before the plane is hit.

Jiminez, a music composer, said he had seen the aircraft experience a failed takeoff and land on the train tracks. In the video Jiminez dodges a piece of debris from the plane.

The local police department applauded the officers on scene, saying on Twitter, “Foothill Division Officers displayed heroism and quick action by saving the life of a pilot who made an emergency landing on the railroad tracks at San Fernando Rd. and Osborne St., just before an oncoming train collided with the aircraft.”

The pilot was taken to a nearby hospital for cuts and bruises and is recovering from the incident and no one on the plane was injured, according to local news outlets.
