Donald Trump sues New York Attorney General for attempting to investigate his real estate business

Former President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit on Monday against New York State attorney general, Letitia James, to stop her inquiry into his business and to block her from a separate criminal investigation.

The suit was filed in federal court in Albany by Trump and his real estate business. They are arguing that James’ involvement is politically motivated.

According to the New York Times, the lawsuit included a long list of public attacks from James on the former president. It said, “her mission is guided solely by political animus and a desire to harass, intimidate, and retaliate against a private citizen who she views as a political opponent.”

Trump claims she is a part of a continual witch hunt against him. Trump will have to prove that James is violating his right, which will likely be a difficult task.

James responded to the lawsuit in a statement, “The Trump Organization has continually sought to delay our investigation into its business dealings. To be clear, neither Mr. Trump nor the Trump Organization get to dictate if and where they will answer for their actions.”

Cyrus. R Vance, Manhattan district attorney, is leading the criminal investigation with James’s office’s assistance. The investigation centers on Trump fraudulently inflating the value of his assets in order to get loans from banks.

Trump’s lawyers will be centering on James’ public attack in the lawsuit against her, including a 2018 video she posted saying, “we’re going to definitely sue him. We’re going to be a real pain in the ass. He’s going to know my name personally.”
