President Biden apologizes to world leaders for Trump’s exit from Paris Climate Accords

President Joe Biden made a public apology to the U.N. climate conference over former president Donald J. Trump’s move to remove the US from the Paris climate accords.

President Joe Biden stated that pulling the US from the climate accords put the US “behind the eight ball a little bit” and that he “shouldn’t apologize, but I do apologize” [PBS]. President Biden quickly rejoined the Paris climate accord after the US withdrew officially in November of last year. Secretary of state Antony Bnlinkes called the rejoining as an “unprecedented framework for global action” [Axios].

Joe Biden said that Americans have been slow to understand and act on the threat of climate change [The Week]. He stated, “The American people, four or five years ago, weren’t at all sure about climate change, whether it was real. Well, they have, as they say in southern parts of my state, seen the lord. They’ve seen what’s happened back home, the incredible changes that are taking place, and they’re now finally — finally, finally, finally — realizing the sense of urgency that you all are” [Business Insider].

President Biden has said that this move is what the historians of the future will see. That they will determine if humans let this final opportunity to combat climate change slip through the crack due to the fact that we didn’t take enough steps to combat it or if we didn’t act at all. Biden declared that “ The United States, if I have anything to do with it, will do our part” [CBS].
