Mother-son duo arrested for allegedly stealing Nancy Pelosi’s laptop during Capitol riot

A mother-son duo from New York have been charged with aiding in theft of a laptop belonging to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) during the Jan. 6 riots.

Maryann Mooney-Rondon, 55, and her son, Rafael Rondon, 23, of Watertown, New York have been charged with theft as well as other related crimes during the riot at the Capitol. Rafael Rondon has also been charged with with possession of an unregistered sawed-off shotgun at his residence, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, according to a Friday legal filing.

So far the duo have been charged with theft of government property, obstruction of an official proceeding, entering/remaining in a restricted building, disorderly conduct in a restricted building, entering/remaining in the gallery of Congress, entering/remaining in certain rooms of the Capitol Building, and disorderly conduct in the Capitol Building, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Both have been released pending further court proceedings. Mooney-Rondon reportedly offered her gloves or a scarf to help someone steal Pelosi’s laptop without leaving behind any identifying marks, reported NBC. Another person on the Jan. 6 docket — 22-year-old Riley June Williams — has been charged with stealing Pelosi’s laptop.

The FBI said in a court filing that a witness — who identified himself as a former romantic partner — told the bureau that Williams “intended to send the computer device to a friend in Russia, who then planned to sell the device to SVR, Russia’s foreign intelligence service” [The Hill].
