Virginia’s Henrico School Board was pranked during an August 26 meeting when Chair Roscoe D. Cooper III read out a list of fake names of people who supposedly requested to give their input on the agenda.
After three hours of serious discussions about its partnership with the Henrico Police Department, the revocation of an employee’s license, revisions to student education records and codes of conduct, and other agenda items, Cooper invited a pre-submitted list of town residents to speak on current issues affecting their community. This public meeting included an unusual number of names apparently absent on that day. Cooper announced the names carefully: Phil McCracken, Eileen Dover, Suk Mahdik, Ophelia McCaulk, Don Kedick and Wayne Kuhr. Shades of the prank calls made to Moe’s Tavern by Bart Simpson.
In a public meeting setting, as names are called, the person may approach the podium and share their comments. Only one woman actually showed up to give public comment.
The Henrico School Board films their meetings for posterity. The minute-long clip of Chair Cooper reading the list has already more than 663,000 views on YouTube, exceeding their channel’s average view count of just a few hundred.
