Former football star Herschel Walker launched a Senate bid in Georgia Tuesday, becoming the latest candidate to run for one of the highest-stakes races in the country.
Just last week he changed his voter registration from Texas to Georgia, where he was a star running back from 1980-1982. Walker has never held public office, and is the highest-profile Republican to challenge Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock thus far.
“In the United States Senate, I will stand up for conservative values and get our country moving in the right direction. It is time to have leaders in Washington who will fight to protect the American Dream for everybody,” Walker said in a prepared statement (Yahoo News).
He filed with the Federal Elections Commission Tuesday, and expected to deliver a formal announcement soon. Georgia’s Senate race in 2022 is expected to be one of the most competitive in the country (Daily Caller).
