Israel bombs weapons site in Gaza after violence at Palestinian border

Following a violent demonstration by Palestinian forces near the Israeli-Egyptian blockade, Israel bombed a weapons site in Gaza.

The demonstrators attacked Israeli soldiers with explosives and rocks, and one Palestinian gunman fired into the crowd of Israeli soldiers. leaving one border police officer critically injured. According to the Gaza Health Ministry, 24 Palestinians were injured during the demonstration.

Reports suggest Hamas organized the protest in an effort to draw attention to the Egyptian fortified border. Israel launched airstrikes on four weapon sites in Gaza, which led to zero reported casualties. Unlike Hamas forces, the Israeli military does not have a history of attacking civilian areas. Following the protest, Israel also reinforced its Gaza border with more troops.

The tension between Hamas forces in Palestine and Israel skyrocketed earlier this summer, adding to the development of a decades-long conflict. During the hostilities and missile barrages in May, Israel’s Defence Forces and numerous news outlets recorded over 4,000 missiles launched against Israel.

After the conflict ended, Hamas claimed the ceasefire as their victory while Israel claimed the very same. This weekend’s conflict was the most significant between Hamas and Israel since the incidents in May.
