Less than ten days into his role as the new host of ‘Jeopardy!’, Mike Richards stepped down amid the resurfacing of scandalous comments from “The Randumb Show” recorded in 2013 and 2014.
The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) called for an investigation into Richards, saying that his “disparaging remarks about Jews, women & Asians are no laughing matter.” One comment shows Richards asking his female colleagues about taking nude photographs, and in another, he calls his co-host a “booth ho.”
After apologizing for his comments, Richards said it is “humbling to confront a terribly embarrassing moment of misjudgment, thoughtlessness and insensitivity from nearly a decade ago.” Following the late host, Alex Trebek, the show’s executive producer, Richards, was chosen amid controversy to take his place.
Sony Pictures TV said, “We support Mike’s decision to step down as host. We were surprised this week to learn of Mike’s 2013/2014 podcast and the offensive language he used in the past. We have spoken with him about our concerns and our expectations moving forward.”
