Shake Shack to require vaccination proof for employees and customers

Danny Meyers, the founder, and CEO of Union Square Hospitality Group, the parent company of Shake Shack, is requiring proof of vaccination for all employees and customers.

The mandate excludes Shake Shack restaurants for the time being, however, all other businesses will be impacted. Meyers owns iconic restaurants like Union Square Cafe and Gramercy Tavern in NYC.In an interview with NBC, Meyers said, “I’m not a scientist, but I know how to read data, and what I see is that this is a crisis of people who have not been vaccinated, and I feel strong responsibility, on our part as business leaders, to take care of our team and our guests, and that’s what we’re doing.” He continued, “You cannot eat or drink with a mask on. The one thing you can do is be vaccinated.”

As the delta variant spreads, the federal government and companies are requiring vaccines for employers and customers. However, speculation around the effectiveness of vaccines has grown after the CDC reversed its policy, now suggesting even the vaccinated should wear a mask.
