President Biden will announce a COVID-19 policy for all federal employees and contractors on Thursday.
A source close to the matter told CNN, workers will be “required to attest to their vaccination status or submit to regular testing.” The source suggested the policy may mirror the latest policies in New York City. This week, NYC announced a requirement for “all city employees, including police, firefighters, and teachers, to take the COVID-19 vaccination or provide weekly negative tests.”
CNN’s source continued, “Additional requirements for the unvaccinated could be added as agencies push to vaccinate their employees.” The Biden administration is increasing efforts to vaccinate Americans through door-to-door campaigns and online message monitoring.
The spread of the Delta variant has initiated new COVID-19 policies, including vaccine requirements at universities and health care systems. The DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel released a statement suggesting vaccine mandates are constitutional as they do not disrupt an individual’s right to choose. The counsel determined that refusing the vaccine indirectly leads to secondary consequences, such as being prohibited from attending an institution or eating at a restaurant.
