Protests erupt across Europe as covid lockdowns, vaccine mandates, vaccine passports begin

Mirroring recent massive protests in Paris, major cities across Europe have begun to protest lockdowns, vaccine passports, and mandates.

Rome, Dublin, and Athens are a few of the cities to demonstrate against their government’s latest COVID-19 policies. Protestors in Paris and Athens have clashed with police, leading to the use of tear-gas and water cannons. In France, demonstrators created a billboard disguising President Macron as Hiter, and claiming COVID-19 policies are comparable to Nazism.

Videos shared on social media show protestors chanting “no to shameful pass,” referring to France’s new health pass requiring vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to enter public spaces or work. A similar system is being protested in Italy, with demonstrators chanting, “no Green Pass.”

After 16 months, the international opposition towards pandemic-induced lockdowns and requirements has skyrocketed. Governments and health leaders claimed the vaccine would allow countries to re-open and resume pre-pandemic life, however, the spread of new variants and a demand for a fully vaccinated population has obstructed this claim. Protestors around the globe are standing against government overreach and striving to maintain medical freedom.
