David Harris, an FBI field agent who handled cases involving child sex crimes, has now been arrested and charged with a wide variety of sex crimes against minors in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida.
The crimes involve multiple victims of various ages, including some minors and some adults. The incidents in question span multiple years, starting in 2016. They may date back even further as more incidents are investigated (WAFB). The investigation against Harris began when complaints started rolling into the FBI in February, and continued for months before a bond hearing in June, where he was denied bond (The Advocate).
As a field agent, David Harris was selected to lead a division of the FBI in charge of investigating online crimes against minors. He graduated from West Point Academy in 1992 and has been with the FBI for over ten years. Harris also serves as a colonel in the U.S Army Reserve in Louisiana. In a statement during the hearing, Harris’ attorney stated that Haris has “served our country honorably” and claimed the allegations were “completely out of character” for Harris (The Advocate).
The agent was initially arrested and booked in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, but also had warrants in East Baton Rouge, and New Orleans. The initial complaint that triggered the start of the investigation came out of Florida, but more victims came forward from Louisiana and Texas as well.
In addition to the sexual crimes, he is also facing two counts of witness intimidation after threatening violence against two witnesses after complaints were brought forward. The other charges he faces include aggravated crimes against nature, indecent behavior with juveniles, sexual battery, obscenity, and attempted third-degree rape (WAFB). He is being held in Ascension Parish Jail awaiting trial.
