Rep. Swalwell reportedly spent thousands of campaign funds on alcohol, limos, and luxury hotels

A report from the Federal Election Commission shows Eric Swalwell (D-CA) has spent thousands of campaign funds on limousines, alcohol, and luxury hotels.

Fox News recently reviewed Swalwell’s second quarter purchases, which he paid for with his campaign funds. The FEC listed several charges at the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay, a luxury hotel where his wife worked from 2015-2019 as the director of sales, according to her LinkedIn profile. The largest single charge at the hotel was $20,240.70 and was listed as a travel expense. Fox News claims there was over $10,000 of limo and car service charges and over $7,000 spent at luxury restaurants in D.C. There were also multiple alcohol delivery charges ranging from around $5 to nearly $125.

While several of the purchases could have been campaign related, many additional charges raise questions. Large payments for child care, at wineries, and listed under “catering” could be related to campaign and fundraising events, but it is unclear from the FEC report. Just this month, it was announced that Swalwell, along with his wife and other congresspeople went on a trip to Qatar, courtesy of the U.S.-Qatar Business Council. They received backlash for taking a luxury trip to Qatar paid for by taxpayer dollars.
