MMA vet Travis Fulton hangs himself after pleading guilty to ‘child porn’ charges

Well known mixed martial arts veteran Travis Fulton committed suicide in his jail cell in Iowa shortly after pleading guilty to child porn charges.

Fulton, nicknamed “The Ironman”, was found unresponsive at the age of 44 in his jail cell at 3:58 in the morning early Saturday. Jail staff was reportedly just doing routine checks on the prisoners when they found him, according to the Linn County Sheriff’s office. It is believed that the former MMA fighter hanged himself that night.

According to Nancy Dillon with New York Daily News, “Fulton had been in state custody since Feb. 19 and was being housed as a “hold” for the U.S. Marshal’s Service. On Friday, Fulton’s defense lawyer informed the court that he had planned to plead guilty to charges No. 2 and No. 4 from his indictment.”

According to court details, Charge No. 2 described an incident in November of last year in which Fulton allegedly tried to get a female minor to “engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of such conduct” using a Canon Power Shot. Charge No. 4 involved “knowingly” possessing child pornography depicting a prepubescent minor between June of 2013 and November 2020.
