Prominent Florida doctor allegedly tied to assassination of Haitian president

Doctor Christian Emmanuel Sanon of South Florida is allegedly tied to the assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moise.

Reporting by the Miami Herald suggests Sanon is a ringleader of the hit squad that killed the president. Sanon was arrested in Haiti after being mentioned by multiple other suspects already in custody. Sanon “made contact with two other people who are implicated, they know who they are, and are recognized as intellectual authors of the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse’,” said Police Chief Léon Charles.

Two suspects, James Solages and Joseph Vincent, told authorities the objective of the attack was to replace President Moise with Sanon. They claimed they did not intend to kill the president, but rather serve him with a 2019 arrest warrant to remove him from office.

Last week, President Moise was murdered in his home during an overnight raid. A group of armed men assassinated the president and wounded his wife, with police killing four suspects and arresting two others hours later. The incident was described as “a highly coordinated attack by a highly trained and heavily armed group,” by interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph.
