Biden administration sends envoy to Israel to help defuse new Israeli-Palestinian violence

The Biden administration is sending a top State Department official to Syria to help de-escalate the rising violence between Israel and Hamas.

Hady Amr, the department’s top official for Israel and Palestine conflicts, is travelling to the now war-torn region in hopes to help diffuse the conflict. “I’ve asked Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Hady Amr to go to the region immediately to meet with Israeli and Palestinian leaders,” said Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. “He will bring to bear his decades of experience, and in particular he will urge on my behalf and on behalf of President Biden a de-escalation of violence.”

This week has seen some of the biggest conflict between Israel and Palestine in years. Palestinian rockets have killed at least five Israelis according to the country’s officials, while Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 56 Palestinians according to the Gaza Health Ministries. Former President Donald Trump has spoken up about the ongoing violence in the region writing, “Under Biden, the world is getting more violent and more unstable because Biden’s weakness and lack of support for Israel is leading to new attacks on our allies.” Trump made it clear he sided with Israel and he said it was on the Palestinians the “end the violence, terror and rocket attacks.”
