AOC expresses security concerns after Marjorie Green reportedly followed her, called out her name

Representative Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez is asking lawmakers to keep Congress “a safe, civil place” following an incident with fellow Representative Majorie Greene.

Two Washington Post reporters caught Greene shouting “Hey Alexandria” numerous times after Ocasio-Cortez exited the chamber. She did not address Greene, despite her continuing to shout. Greene went on to ask Ocasio-Cortez about her support for “terrorists.” According to the post, she was referring to Black Lives Matter and ANTIFA. “You don’t care about the American people,” Greene shouted, as per the Post. “Why do you support terrorists and ANTIFA?” After Ocasio-Cortez left the area, Greene described the congresswoman as a “chicken” who “doesn’t want to debate the Green New Deal.” She continued, “These members are cowards. They need to defend their legislation to the people.”

“We hope (the Sergeant at Arms) and House leadership will take real steps to make Congress a safe, civil workplace for both Members and staff,” the Democratic lawmaker’s office said in a statement. Lauren Hitt, a spokesperson for Ocasio-Cortez, told the Post that Greene “tried to begin an argument with Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez and when Rep. Ocasio-Cortez tried to walk away, Congresswoman Greene began screaming and called Rep. Ocasio-Cortez a terrorist sympathizer.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested that the Ethics Committee consider the incident. Greene denied the Post’s account of the interaction and claimed that there was no screaming
