President Biden announced in a speech that his administration is proceeding with the next steps of the plan to defeat the coronavirus, seeking to get 70% of the nation vaccinated by July 4th.
However, the government is having trouble getting certain groups of people to accept the vaccine. Since vaccination isn’t mandated, the most Biden can do is promote it. The Biden Administration intends to reach out to local levels of communities, like a doctor’s office, to make vaccination easier and more comfortable for people. There was also the idea of asking stores to offer discounts to those who have been vaccinated.
Those who are skeptical of the vaccine and those in rural areas are the ones especially in the scope of the Biden Administration. Although experts say 80% of people need to be vaccinated for herd immunity to step in, 70% of our whole nation being vaccinated would put a huge dent in the pandemic’s longevity. “I want to be absolutely clear — you do need to get vaccinated,” Biden stressed. “Getting vaccinated not only protects you, it also reduces the risk that you give the virus to somebody else. You could save your life, or the lives of people you love.”
