A group of climate activists dumped cow manure in front of the White House on Earth Day to protest President Biden’s climate plan that they believe doesn’t go far enough.
The protesters are said to be from the Extinction Rebellion which is a group that often performs stunt protests. The group says they use nonviolent forms of civil disobedience to compel government action to avoid tipping points in the climate system. The group stated, “Biden’s 2030 emissions plan is bull s***, we’ll blast through 1.5C. Why can’t we elect presidents who understand science?” Biden has stated that his climate plan aims to cut carbon emissions in half by the year 2030.
The Paris Climate Agreement, which Biden rejoined after Trump pulled the US out, aims to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. “Biden is punting the crisis to future generations with targets that rely on unproven technologies sucking carbon out of the atmosphere. This is a massive gamble to take when the well-being of the human species and the richness of life on earth is at stake. If he cared he’d set targets that expire while he’s still in office. We can’t keep waiting, we need change now,” the Extinction Rebellion said in a statement.
