Michigan attorney general announces pizzeria owner was arrested for continuously violating COVID measures

The owner of a Michigan pizzeria was arrested Friday morning after information came to light on her will to “violate the state’s food laws, public health orders and a court-ordered Temporary Restraining Order.” This arrest comes after recent problems related to Covid-19.

According to Michigan attorney general Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, Marlena Pavlos-Hackney, the owner of the pizzeria in Holland Michigan, was arrested without incident on Friday.

It is reported that the business owner went against the ban on indoor dining, and instead made the decision to keep their doors open in defiance with Michigan’s Department of Health and Human Services mandate. Following that incident, the Department of Health and Human Services in Michigan suspended her license in January of 2021; this was even after Marlena’s Bistro and Pizzeria was still serving customers— at this point, illegally. Consequently Suspension was upheld from the owner on the grounds that she “knowingly, has not complied with both local and state health department requirements that were established to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to employees, customers, and the community.”

A warning was issued to the public about Marlena’s Bistro and Pizzeria, stating that “This owner has continued to willfully violate the state’s food laws, public health orders and the order of the court — a dangerous act that may have exposed dozens of diners and employees to the virus following the discovery that one of Marlena’s customers tested positive for the virus within two days of eating there,” according to the attorney general. After that a warrant was put out for Marlena Pavlos-Hackney’s arrest, and she was urged to turn herself in by March 18th, but she did not. Causing her to be arrested last Friday. She was sent to Ingham County Jail where she will remain until court proceedings.
