Donald Trump hints at potential 2022 Senate run for daughter-in-law Lara Trump

Former President Donald Trump hinted at a potential run for U.S. Senate run for his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, in the state of North Carolina in 2022.

At a fundraising event last Friday for Big Dog Ranch Rescue at Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump made a surprise appearance and hinted at Lara Trump’s likely run for the Senate. “I want to thank Lara, who’s been so incredible. I don’t know, you’re running for the Senate. I hear she’s going to run for the Senate,” he said. And with that, the crowd listening to him roared with cheer and applause. If it was certain that she would run, Lara Trump would likely be running for the seat that belongs to North Carolina Senator Richard Burr (R-NC).

Sen. Richard Burr is currently serving as the senior United States Senator from North Carolina and has been serving as a Senator since 2005. He was also elected to the House of Representatives for the 5th Congressional district of North Carolina as a Republican in 1994, serving until 2005. In 2016, Burr announced that he will not seek reelection in 2022. Lara Trump also hinted at wanting to run for an unspecified office in December of last year while on the “Fox Across America With Jimmy Failla” podcast. “I could think of nothing greater than to represent the people of my home state, represent North Carolina,” she said.

The Trump family may once again hold public office if Lara Trump does decide to run, should she win. This of course comes after Trump lost his reelection bid for presidency in 2020. Although Lara Trump is a well known and popular name, her Republican opponents won’t back down from the election. In the Republican primary, her only opponent would be Matt Walker who is serving as a representative in the 6th Congressional district of North Carolina in the House of Representatives as a Republican, he has been serving since 2015.

Lindsey Graham has endorsed Trump for Senate on February 14th on Fox News Sunday saying, ”My dear friend Richard Burr, who I like and I’ve been friends to a long time, just made Lara Trump almost the certain nominee for the Senate seat in North Carolina to replace him if she runs, and I certainly would be behind her because I think she represents the future of the Republican Party.” Matt Walker responded with this to say on the day after while on Fox Business’ Mornings with Maria, “In the words of I believe it was John Ashcroft, Lindsey is always confident but not always right.”
