BREAKING: Senator accuses FBI of faking background check of Justice Kavanaugh in 2018

The FBI has been accused of faking the background check of Justice Kavanaugh in 2018.

Senator Whitehouse has reached out to newly appointed Attorney General, Merrick Garland, about the legitimacy of the FBI’s role in the investigation into Brett Kavanaugh back in 2018. Whitehouse suspects that the bureau was not transparent about their results and may not have done things by the book. “The second matter of concern is what appears to have been a politically-constrained and perhaps fake FBI investigation into alleged misconduct by now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, rather than what Director Wray promised: a background investigation ‘consistent with [the FBI’s] long-standing policies, practices, and procedures,'” Whitehouse wrote.

As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, it’s part of Whitehouse’s job to be skeptical of what people do, but in this case it’s more of what wasn’t done. According to Whitehouse, the FBI set up a tip line for the probe, but the material on it was never reviewed. He also claimed that FBI agents failed to interview numerous witnesses and persons of interest, including Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford. “This was unique behavior in my experience, as the Bureau is usually amenable to information and evidence; but in this matter the shutters were closed, the drawbridge drawn up, and there was no point of entry by which members of the public or Congress could provide information to the FBI,” Whitehouse noted.

An official tied to the investigation defended the bureau with the reminder that the background check only went as far as the White House Counsel office asked. The FBI has not given much response to the allegations yet, but soon enough Director Wray will have to answer to the public and the US Senate. The Kavanaugh investigation was never concluded with definitive results and lately the FBI’s efficiency has been brought into question. The FBI is our number one line of national security and very strict about reputation, so they’ll have to work to make amends with the public for the document forgery, coverups, FISA violations, and otherwise inactivity over the past four years.
