As COVID-19 cases in the United States decline, new covid variants enter the country

Right as Americans start returning to their normal lives and cases have been steadily declining, a new covid variant is found in Washington.

As Covid cases seemed to be going down, states started to open up and vaccine distribution was increasing. However, right now, it appears as if several states are reintroducing laws designed to “stop the spread,” despite the perceived return to normality.

At the end of January, a new variant of covid-19 would enter the U.S., P.1 coronavirus. On March 11, 2021 King County of Washington state would be just the tenth state to discover a case of the new covid variant first discovered in Brazil. Additionally, King county has discovered over 100 cases of the variant first discovered in the U.K. and 5 cases of the variant found in South Africa.

There are still many unknowns about covid-19. All research, science, and efforts have been focused on covid-19 over the last year. Health experts have already been researching and focusing on variants and mutations within covid. One of their findings, P.1 Coronavirus is said to be more contagious than its predecessor. Expanding, all of the known variants today are more contagious but, there is no change in their lethality. Researchers also suggest that covid vaccines will be able to protect us from all of the variants already identified.
