Adoptive mother and father charged with homicide after adopted 3-year-old daughter found dead

Adoptive mother and father were charged with homicide after their adopted daughter Victoria was found to have suffered blood forced injuries.

Currently awaiting trial after being denied bond, Ariel Shnise Robinson, 29, of South Carolina, and her husband, Jerry Austin Robinson, 34, have both been charged with homicide by child abuse after their adopted daughter Victoria was found to have suffered blood forced injuries, according to arrest warrants. Victoria Rose Smith was a 3-year-old child. Ariel Shnise Robinson, formerly known as the winner of Food Networks 20th season of “Worst Cooks in America”, is now behind bars after her plea for bail being denied by the judge. All episodes including Robinson were removed from all platforms after the charges surfaced.

Even after direct requests from Robinson’s attorney,  Lucas Craig Merchant to set a reasonable price for bail as “ …she is neither a flight risk nor a danger to the community.” Her husband, Jerry Austin Robinson has hired Lucas Craig Merchant as his attorney to represent him in this matter. The Robinson’ attorneys have filed motions for discovery in the case. Victoria Rose Smith had been adopted by the Robinson family in March. Since her death, Victoria Smith’s biological family has been publicly pushing for the South Carolina Department of Social Services reform.

Last week, the family had begged the Greenville County authorities to release the 3-year-old’s remains so they can hold a proper funeral and a burial. After several days of back-and-forth, the state had released Victoria’s remains to the family.

According to the 911 incident report, around 2 p.m. on January 14th 2021, Ariel Shnise Robinson told her husband Jerry Austin Robinson to call 911 when their daughter Victoria was found unresponsive at their Simpsonville, South Carolina home. Ariel had stated that the 911 dispatcher had instructed her to lie Victoria on the ground and begin CPR, according to Ariel’s podcast, she is certified in performing child CPR.

As the original report was for an unresponsive child, the Simpsonville Fire Department was first dispatched at 2:16 p.m. and they arrived at the home three minutes later, while EMS arrived around 2:25 p.m. The first responders immediately took over CPR and rushed Victoria to the Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital. According to a heavily redacted report, it is seen that first responders on the scene had immediately suspected child abuse.

The fire department had placed a call to the police department for child abuse/ aggravated assault and emergency protective custody at 2:25 p.m. By the time police arrived on the scene at 2:30 p.m., Victoria had already been taken to the hospital. Victoria Rose Smith was pronounced dead at the hospital that day. Ariel Shnise Robinson and her husband, Jerry Austin Robinson are currently awaiting their hearings following the accusations.
