Nearly 700 American veterans have issued an open letter affirming their support of President Trump against media attacks weeks before the 2020 presidential election. ~

This letter was released just days after The Atlantic published a story citing four anonymous sources that claim that President Trump referred to fallen soldiers as “losers” and “suckers.” The report outlines that Trump claimed a visit to the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris in 2018 was cancelled due to bad weather conditions, claiming that “the helicopter couldn’t fly” and that the Secret Service would not transfer him to the site. According to the report, however, neither of these claims were true, and Trump cancelled the visit because he was worried about his hair, and “did not believe it important to honor American war dead, according to four people with firsthand knowledge of the discussion that day,” (The Atlantic). ~

In the letter, the Veterans rejected the piece from The Atlantic and expressed their unwavering support for President Trump, citing what they believe to be his pro-military policies and attitudes. They described the recent controversy as a “baseless media attack” that shows “the depth to which the President’s opponents are willing to descend to divide the nation and meddle in this election.” ~

The Veterans continued by providing the context for the allegations, based on Trump’s canceled trip to a military cemetery, and argue that the trip has been proven to have been canceled for security reasons. They go on to criticize the credibility of the four anonymous sources, citing the refutation of the allegations by John Bolton and the Secret Service agent in charge of the President’s detail. ~

The veterans then explained that they believe that the president has “stood by our men and women in uniform and cared for them once they have returned to civilian life.” The veterans mentioned Trump’s reforms to veteran healthcare, the increased military spending, and “his firm commitment to preventing endless wars and bringing troops home.” The veterans finished by criticizing the Mainstream Media, as well as Joe Biden. ~
